Big Brands Using Pinterest to Promote Their Holiday Goods

Let’s be real, I need to get ready for the holidays ASAP. I’m a mom and wife who works full time so getting ready for the holidays is a crazy time. Of course, this year I did not organize my time well and I have yet to buy my kids their Christmas presents, shop for new holiday decorations, and buy holiday party essentials.

Thankfully, curation portals like Pinterest are making it easier for crazy busy people like me to find what I need in one central spot. Big brands are using Pinterest to organize their products into categories so users can scan through their products based on need and use.

This relatively new way of showcasing products saves people like me from searching through cramped and messy store aisles and almost brings back the fun to holiday shopping.

What Pinterest is displaying is an awesome way to use curation to market their products. Check out a list of stores and see how well they display their merchandise for the holidays.

Target “Top Toys” Kid’s Gift Board

12.19.1.1Target TopToys Pinterest Board

With over 17,822 followers and almost 100 of the year’s top toys, this board is a mother’s godsend. You can browse through Target’s toy inventory in a simple, easy, and organized way, and buying the gift is as simple as clicking on the toy you want and visiting Target.com to make the purchase. Compared to the ToysRUs “2012 Holiday Hot Toys!” board with only 10 pins, this Target board shows that Target is ahead of the curation game for holiday gift retailers.

Macy’s “Be Santa” Gift Board

12.19.2.2Macy’s Santa Pinterest Board

Everyone has that person in their life that is practically impossible to buy for. To find something for this hard-to-please person, you usually have to scour the shelves of holiday gifts trying to find that perfect gift. This year Macy’s is taking the trouble out of unique gift shopping and putting all of their best gifts on one board. With over 292 pins of gifts, Macy’s is better targeting their customers and also pushing their biggest products and brands.

Pillsbury “Holiday Cookies + Confections” Holiday Treat Board

12.19.3.3Pillsbury Holiday Treats Pinterest Board

By pinning images all of the sweet treats you can make with Pillsbury products, this brand is really using the recipe fad of Pinterest to market their products to the best of their advantage. Check out their Christmas lollipop cookies, I would have never thought about doing that. So simple but yet so creative, and that is exactly what we need especially during this busy time of the year. People expect Pillsbury recipes to taste great, but there is something about seeing a photo of the final product that makes consumers hungry, and curating images is an awesome (and underutilized) marketing tool for food brands.

Bailey’s “Dress it Up” Drink Recipe Board

12.19.4.4Baily’s Drink Recipe Pinterest Board

I had to spice it up with some fun for the adults. Bailey’s is actually considered the most popular drink for the holidays.  Even though they do not have as many followers as the other boards, Bailey’s does a great job at promoting their signature holiday drink – the Peppermint Cream.  I love the fact that Bailey’s organizes their board so simply and efficiently; their images are certainly attention-grabbing and make you want to serve their attractive concoctions at your Holiday party.

Pier 1 Imports’ Board for Everything

12.19.5.5Pier1 Imports Pinterest board

Pier 1 Imports is really marketing their products to the max. From “Spectacular and Unique Gifts” and “Gifts for the Office” to “Gifts Under $5” and “Gifts Under $40” to “Christmas Ornaments” and “Cheer 1 Entertaining”, Pier 1 really does have a board for everything. Their  genius strategy of utilizing broad categories, and creating super specific boards make it the best brand on Pinterest for browsing to find exactly what you need for this holiday season. The have over 25,000 followers that agree with me! Hands down, this is my favorite brand on Pinterest.

As you can see, some big brands are using curation to their advantage this holiday season. Now it is time for me to hit the road and check out all of these stores; I can’t help myself after seeing all of these boards!
